Allegan was one of nearly two dozen Michigan communities that was honored in the statewide Michigan Green Communities Challenge. The Challenge is a community recognition for pursuing sustainability efforts in projects ranging from green building technology to LED streetlight conversions. The City of Allegan recently applied for a Bronze Level Certificate. We received recognition because of our efforts in energy conservation, including cost savings measures on the riverfront through proposed LED installations and planned conversations with the neighbors to raise the awareness of recycling and other activities. We received this recognition, along with other noteworthy communities.
