Yard waste bags must be paper bags and only contain grass, leaves, and other foliage which will decompose in compost piles. Brush cut by the property owner, fallen limbs, branches, and Christmas trees may be dropped off for chipping. Branches must not exceed 4 inches in diameter.

Spring Spruce Up

Beginning April 1 and ending May 3, 2024 City of Allegan residents may place leaves and brush at the street edge for pick up. Placement of brush and leaf piles at the streets edge can only occur during this time frame.

Brush and leaf piles must be placed into separate piles or in bags. Leaf piles need to be within 3 feet of the edge of the road for the vacuums to reach. Leaf piles cannot be placed near utility poles, guy-wires, hydrants, mail boxes, or other obstructions; leaf piles also must not block storm drains.
Brush must not exceed 4 inches in diameter and must be from the property owners regular trimming and yard clean up, not from a contracted tree removal service. Brush shall not contain trash, vines, building materials, stumps, or roots.

On Monday of each week during this time frame the City will begin on the main streets and then move onto the side streets throughout the week.
