BRUSH / BAGGED LEAF / GRASS PICK-UP

Rules and Regulations

Brush Pick-Up:
The City will pick up brush on all City streets one time per month beginning the first Monday of every month.  If the first Monday is a holiday, pick up will begin on Tuesday.  If a large windstorm or ice event occurs, additional brush pick will begin on the weekday following the event.

2010 Pick-ups will begin on the following dates: 
April 5, May 3, June 7, July 5, August 2, September 7, October 4, November 1

Brush Must

1. Be at least 2’ long but not longer than 10’.
2. Not exceed 4” diameter.
   
3. Not include loose leaves, twigs, etc. These materials must be placed in City approved composting bags. Bags must not weigh more than 50 pounds.
   
4. Not include trash, vines, building materials, plants, dirt, stumps or roots.
   
5. Be stacked in one direction only.
6. Not be tied with string, twine, wire or similar materials.
   
7. Be placed on the public right-of-way, between the street and the property line, not on private property and not on the pavement.
   
8. Items may not be set out prior to 3:00 PM on the Friday immediately prior to the pick up date.
   
9. Brush and bags combined may not exceed the amount that can be loaded on a one ton dump truck per property per month. Please do not place brush and bags in the same pile.

Bagged Leaf/Grass Pick-Up
The City will pick up bagged leaves and yard wastes on all City streets one time per month beginning on the first Monday of every month.  If the first Monday is a holiday, pick up will begin on Tuesday.

2010 Pick-ups will begin on the following dates: 
April 5, May 3, June 7, July 5, August 2, September 7, October 4, November 1

The following rules apply:

1. Yard waste must be in approved City bags. Bags may be purchased at TruValue Hardware, Ace Hardware, Village Market and City Hall.
   
2. Bags must contain only grass, leaves or other foliage.
   
3. Bags must not weigh more than 50 pounds each.
   
4. Bags must be placed on the public right-of-way, between the street and the property line; not on private property and not on the pavement. DO NOT RAKE INTO THE
   STREETS!!
   
5. NO ROOTS, STUMPS, STONES, DIRT, GARBAGE, METAL, BROKEN CONCRETE, LUMBER OR OTHER BUILDING MATERIALS.
   
6. Items may not be set out prior to 3:00 PM on the Friday immediately prior to the pickup date.

Bagged Leaves/Grass Drop Off Site

Bags of leaves and grass clippings may be dropped off at the Public Works facility located at 691 Airway Dr.  The drop off site may be used at your convenience.

1. Leaves and Grass must be in approved City bags.  Bags may be purchased at Allegan True-Value Hardware, Ace Hardware, Village Market and City Hall.
2. Bags must contain only grass, leaves or other foliage.
3. Bags must not weigh more than 50 pounds each NO ROOTS, STUMPS, STONES, DIRT, GARBAGE, METAL, BROKEN CONCRETE, LUMBER OR OTHER BUILDING MATERIALS.
   

Failure to follow these policies may result in a civil infraction per the City’s ordinances.

Fall Leaf Pickup

Fall leaf pickup begins in October. Leaves may be raked to the curbside for vacuum pick up. Please avoid raking leaves into the street and do not block storm catch basins. Due to weather and leaf fall variables, no specific pick-up dates can be scheduled but City crews will continue to vacuum through November as weather allows.
